Behind Minara

My journey with prayer has known its up and downs through different life phases.

As a kid, prayer was a wonderful discovery and it felt magical that I got to speak to God every day. That made me feel special. Through my late teens and as a young adult, my prayer practice wavered. In tough times, it was my stronghold; otherwise, it felt more like a mechanical obligation.

Entering the professional world amidst personal challenges, my prayer life wasn’t at its best. I often felt guilty, viewing my prayer as an interruption to my busy schedule, which led me to struggle with khushu’ (deep concentration in prayer).

After a loooong period of struggle, I embarked on a quest - rekindling my connection to prayer and to Allah.

My journey to understand and transform my approach to prayer revealed I wasn’t alone. Many, more than I thought, shared similar experience, we just didn’t talk about it.

We were taught to pray more as a safeguard from hellfire than as a nurturing, grounding practice.

When in fact, Salah, in its fullness, is about building mindfulness, resilience, a sense of purpose, steadfast faith and many more benefits.

This realization hit me just as I noticed that the existing tech prayer products didn’t help foster this understanding and connection to prayer.

And this is how I began my journey with Minara. With every step and every hurdle I overcome (tech startups are no joke), my heart swells, knowing it brings me and others (I hope) closer to Allah.

Lamyaa, Founder of Minara

In Poursuit of Khushu’u

Prayer is meant to be a moment of deep connection and single focus. This deep, soul-filling connection, known as khushu’u, can sometimes feel so difficult to attain. It’s a challenge I know many, like me, deal with.

We aspire to get a sense of khushu’u and mindfulness that gives us tranquility.

That's what Minara is all about. It's not just about counting down the rak'ahs. It's about making every prostration count, about filling up on that peaceful, focused feeling that stays with you long after you've said "Salam" to end the prayer.

I want Minara to be that nudge, that reminder of the incredible power of prayer—not just a pause in your day, but a moment that recharges you, realigns you with your values, and reminds you of who you really are and what you're here for.

Join me, and together let’s make our prayer the highlight of our day, every day.
